Violette de Bordeaux (also sold as Negronne) is a long-established French-type fig with compact growth suited to containers and small gardens. Small 1–1.5" fruit with deep purple-black skin and strawberry-red flesh — intensely sweet, dense, and jammy. As a common-type fig, it sets fruit without pollination in most home-growing regions. Capable of two crops where conditions allow: an early breba crop on previous-season wood and a heavier main crop on new growth from July through September. Cold-hardy with protection to Zone 7. Fruiting patterns — including whether a breba crop materializes — vary with climate and management.
